One million salary cap for Big Bash
Wednesday 29 June 2011

Cricket Australia announced the salary cap for Australia's revamped Twenty20 Big Bash competition. The salary cap is set at $1.05 million USD for each team.

The teams, including two each from Melbourne and Sydney, can sign up to 18 players, including up to two from overseas, within the cap, Cricket Australia said Wednesday. Players will be paid retainers, not match fees.

Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and West Indian power-hitter Chris Gayle are two of the most high-profile players that are in negotiation with teams.

The Indian Premier League, which spawned a number of domestic Twenty20 competitions around the world, imposed a $9 million salary cap on its clubs for its 2011 competition.
