Justice Mukul Mudgal, the chief of the probe committee that investigated the IPL betting scandal of 2013, has hailed Shashank Manohar's appointment as the BCCI president.
According to Justice Mudgal, "I found him to be an absolutely ramrod-straight person with only interest of the game at heart. Manohar can lead BCCI well," Mudgal said.
He added that the two-month time Manohar has sought to clean up Indian cricket may not be sufficient. "But he has started off well. The priorities that he has set for himself are good and need quick attention. There is a lot more to be done but a beginning has been made."
When asked whether he made any other suggestion to BCCI, Justice Mudgal said: "The board has a comprehensive code of ethics which if followed can make a huge difference. However, I did make a suggestion to popularize the game. BCCI can permit children from government schools to watch Test matches which otherwise are played to empty stands. These are the people who want to witness a match but don't have the money. Who knows, there could be a few Tendulkars and Dravids who may be inspired to play."
