The Justice Lodha Committee, which will table its final report to the BCCI and the Supreme Court on January 4, is expected to recommend at least two radical reforms in the BCCI, as per a report published in The Times of India.
According to the report, the Lodha committee could propose 'one association per state'. This reform is aimed at reducing the number of cricket associations under the Board of Control for Cricket in India's umbrella.
Maharashtra has three BCCI-affiliated associations (Maharashtra are Mumbai Cricket Association, Maharashtra Cricket Association and Vidarbha Cricket Association), while Gujarat too has three (Saurashtra Cricket Association, Baroda Cricket Association and Gujarat Cricket Association). Andhra Pradesh comprises two - Andhra Cricket Association and Hyderabad Cricket Association – cricket bodies as well.
Another important amendment that could be proposed by Lodha committee would prohibit BCCI office bearers from holding positions at state associations.
If this is implemented, key officials of the Indian board like Anurag Thakur and Rajeev Shukla will have to relinquish their state association seats.
The TOI report further claims that BCCI members are likely to oppose these recommendations.
A board official believe these radical proposals will destroy the history of the BCCI.
