Don’t want to get too much into cricket, Rathore tells BCCI
Top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday met Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in New Delhi. There was speculation that the board, which is at loggerheads with the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) over the issue of testing of Indian cricketers, wanted to apprise the sports ministry about its doping programme, and also sought the government's view on playing Pakistan in the planned ICC Test Championship, but a BCCI official denied that any discussion on those lines happened.
BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and general manager (administration and game development) Prof Ratnakar Shetty met Rathore at his office for about 45 minutes. "It was a courtesy call. Nothing more than that. We met him because we've been trying to get an appointment with him for long. There was no discussion on our stand on doping or playing against Pakistan. We've just discussed our programmes on cricket, regarding women's and junior cricket, with him. He shared his and the government's plans on sports," a BCCI official told TOI on Wednesday.
"Rathore was clear that he doesn't want to get too much into cricket, because he said that for all the other issues in the BCCI, the game has prospered over the years. It was a pleasure to meet someone who's played at the highest level, and that reflected in his clear thinking. He doesn't have to depend on the babus (to work)."
