PCB set to launch modified PPL
Tuesday 28 June 2011

The Pakistan Cricket Board is planning on launching its own version of a domestic franchise-based T20 league. The PCB failed in an initial attempt to organise the Pakistan Premier League on a much grander scale, but have now settled on working on a more realistic model.

"What is clear now is that the board is convinced it would serve no purpose for it even if the Pakistan Premier League was possible at a neutral venue," a source in the PCB told PTI.

"What is decided now is to work on a modified version of the PPL but it will only be held in Pakistan," he added.

The main idea behind organising the PPL is to convince international players to come and play in Pakistan. "The plan is to launch the PPL in the country and convince a few overseas players to appear in it for franchise teams," the source said.

"Even if the PCB managed to launch its PPL in Dubai or some other neutral venue it realises now this will not help in any way in convincing foreign teams to start touring Pakistan. The idea is now to work slowly but steadily on a premier league but in Pakistan," the source added.

The PCB is going all out to convince the cricketing fraternity about Pakistan’s ability to organise a safe and successful T20 league in order to persuade overseas countries to tour the country in the future.
