Toe injury sidelines Sachin
Saturday 03 September 2011

Team India’s nightmarish luck with injuries continued as ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar was forced to sit out of the opening one-dayer against England here due to a toe injury.

Tendulkar has been carrying this injury for quite a while but the problem aggravated before the opener of the five-match series.

The 38-year-old Tendulkar will meet a surgeon, either on Sunday or on Monday, before a final call is taken on his avalaibility for the series, according to team sources.

The batting maestro, who is just one short of completing the incredible milestone of 100 international centuries, may have to wait just a little longer with this latest injury.

The team is already missing key players such as Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan due to injuries and if Tendulkar is also ruled, it would be yet another massive blow for the visitors.

While Sehwag is out because of hearing problems, Gambhir has been forced to go back due to blurred vision following an awkward fall during the Test series. Zaheer, on the other hand, has already undergone an ankle surgery.
