Afridi retires from international cricket
Tuesday 31 May 2011

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket in Karachi late on Monday, Geo News reported.

According to sources, Afridi’s disagreement with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the cause of his early retirement.

Afridai told gEo TV that it was hard for him to play under a cricket board, which pays no respect to senior players.

"I cannot work with the people who find it difficult to tolerate statements in favour of cricket," he stated, saying that the duty of a coach was to work for the welfare of and in favour of team.

"It is nothing short of an hounour for me that Pakistan played world cup semifinal under my captaincy," he told Geo TV.

The 31-year-old quit Test cricket last year but captained his nation at the 2011 World Cup and continued to lead the side until the recent tour of the West Indies, after which he was replaced by Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq.

Afridi had pulled out of the two one-day internationals against Ireland after long-standing rumours of disagreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board and team coach Waqar Younis.
