Srinivasan removed as BCCI boss

The Honourable Supreme Court’s bench comprising of Justice A.K. Patnaik and Justice Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla passed an interim order regarding various issues raised in the report filled by the retired Justice Mukul Mudgal-led committee.

The interim order mentioned that incumbent BCCI President, Mr. N. Srinivasan be replaced by Mr. Sunil Gavaskar and Mr. Shivlal Yadav until an unbiased investigation into the betting and spot-fixing charges against Gurunath Meiyappan and its ramifications on the CSK franchise is concluded.

Mr. Gavaskar was appointed as the interim BCCI President for all matters related to IPL 2014. While senior Vice-President of the BCCI, Mr. Yadav will exercise the powers of the President of the BCCI on all other matters pertaining to the BCCI. The interim order further stated that no India Cements employee (except players and commentators) will perform any duty assigned to them by the BCCI. Mr. Gavaskar will also decide if Mr. Sundar Raman continues in his role as the CEO of the IPL.

Furthermore, the interim order stated that, Mr. Gavaskar will not be working as a commentator during the tenure as the interim BCCI President and that he will be adequately compensated by the BCCI for the loss in earnings.

The next hearing on the matter will take place on 16th April, 2014.
