Mudgal report may confirm Gurunath's role
Thursday 23 October 2014

The final report to be tabled by the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee is expected to confirm N Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan's role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 spot-fixing scandal. The Mudgal commission is currently probing allegations of betting and spot-fixing in IPL 2013. Meiyappan was arrested on allegations of betting along with Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh.

According to The Indian Express, the Mudgal committee has found evidence confirming Meiyappan’s involvement in betting and also that he was a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. The tapped telephonic conversations between Meiyappan and Vindoo, which were tested at a forensic lab in Mumbai, are believed to have confirmed that the voice in the tape was of Meiyappan. According to IPL laws, if any franchise official is found guilty of wrongdoing, then the team can be expelled.

Chennai’s marketing official told Indian Express, “This is an absolute legal thing and who are you and I to talk about this? When a matter is sub judice, this is an unfair question to ask and would be unfair on my part to reply. The matter should be left to the right people.”
