Sehwag hoping to be fit for Eng tour
Friday 24 June 2011

India might be making light work of the West Indies on their tour to the Caribbean. But with a series against England on the anvil, India will need all their senior stars back to compete against Andrew Strausss’ side.

And one batsman that India would definitely love to see back on the field is Virender Sehwag and the right-hander is doing all he can to recover from shoulder surgery in time for the England series.

"I am getting better and working hard on my rehabilitation. Hopefully, I will be back soon. I am trying very hard to be fit so that I can play in during the England tour," Sehwag said.

Sehwag admitted that it is difficult to sit at home and watch his teammates slog it out but there is very little one can do about it.

"It is very difficult when you are sitting at home and watching India playing against the West Indies. It's very frustrating but you can't do anything. It is because of the shoulder injury, I have to sit out and do my rehab."

Sehwag believes that currently the number one ranked Test side in the world will have a tough time holding on to that spot, but is confident that India can achieve that.

"We are maintaining this number-one position from the last one year or so. Reaching that number-one position is difficult and it is even more difficult to stay there for a longer time."

"If we can beat the West Indies, England and Australia (this year), we can prove that we really are the number one team," Sehwag was quoted as saying during an interview with the ICC Cricket World Radio Show.
