CBI cop to head IPL fixing probe
Saturday 18 April 2015

The Supreme Court has allowed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer Vivek Priyadarshi to take over a probe of former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief operating officer Sundar Raman, on the request of the committee headed by former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha. Priyadarshi will replace IPS officer B.B. Mishra, who retired from service on March 31.

The appointment means special powers for Priyadarshi where he can choose his team of officers.A committee of three retired judges was appointed by the apex court on January 22 to investigate Raman’s role into the betting and spot-fixing controversy that marred the sixth edition of the IPL.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had barred N Srinivasan from contesting the BCCI elections due to "conflict of interest". The apex court had also appointed a three-member team panel under Lodha to decide on the punishment to be given to Raj Kundra, Gurunath Meiyappan and IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
