‘CoA’s adventure with the ICC all but over’
An internal note circulated to the BCCI members expressed satisfaction at the Supreme Court not taking note of the Status Reports by the CoA.
The note said: “None of the prayers of the CoA, that were part of its Status Reports, have been granted and the SC very clearly said it will hear the matter at length in July and did not pass any order on any disqualification. In fact, the SC was set to nominate Niranjan Shah as BCCI’s representative to the ICC, knowing fully well that he is above 70.
“So Niranjan Shah is ok to attend the SGM; so as things stand, the disqualification of office-bearers is just that. It has no bearing on any representation, or being part of a committee.
“On the question of disqualification, [Kapil] Sibal argued brilliantly and, in fact, questioned the bench as to how N. Srinivasan is disqualified and even urged the bench to pass an order if he is disqualified. The bench did not pass such an order!
“The bench then proceeded to select the nominee for the ICC meeting and has directed Amitabh Choudhary, the acting secretary, to represent the BCCI at the ICC Board Meeting.
“The good news here is that our elected office-bearer will be representing us and the CoA’s adventure with the ICC is all but over. In Tuesday’s SGM, we have to support and strengthen Amitabh’s position by arming him with the necessary resolutions to take the stand that is required to be taken in the best interests of the BCCI.
“The Court has also asked Rahul Johri to attend the CEC meeting. We need to pass the necessary resolutions on this too.”
